SEATTLE, WASH- APRIL 9, 2013-Paul  G. Allen's Flying Heritage Collection (FHC) welcomes visitors to the official opening of "Hangar 2" on Friday, April 12 at 11 a.m. This 26,000-square-foot expansion to FHC facility will feature all-new exhibits, a movie theater, and new planes and ground weaponary.

Thanks to the expansion, FHC will be able to put more of its rare warbirds on display for visitors to enjoy, and dive deeper into the history and technology of the incredible WWII artifacts.

Hangar 2 will feature all-new exhibits that follow major WWII combatant machines into the five theatres of the war and their vastly different environments- from the snows of Russia to the sands of the Pacific islands.  This complements the story in Hangar 1, which focuses on innovations in technology during this same time period. Hangar 2 will also house a new movie theater, which seats up to 49 people, where visitors can watch short videos about WWII events, developments and conditions.

A total of 19 aircraft and about a dozen artifacts will be on display between the two Hangars. After Hangar 2 opens, the following will be added to the collection on display at FHC:

  • Mikoyan MiG-29UB Fulcrum: The most successful Soviet fighter aircraft of the late 20th century, this example served with the Ukrainian Air Force.
  • M4A1 Sherman Tank: America's ubiquitous medium tank was reliable, easy to maintain, and incredibly rugged. It was the most-produced tank in U.S. history.
  • A large searchlight and generator that worked with the German Flak 88 anti-aircraft gun.

The Flying Heritage Colletion is located at Paine Field in Everett, Washington at 3407 109th Street SW.
