Racing Extinction Makes Global Premiere

11/23/2015

We are racing extinction.

On December 2, Discovery Channel will present a global broadcast of Racing Extinction, a powerful documentary from Academy Award-winning director Louie Psihoyos. In partnership with Psihoyos’ Oceanic Preservation Society and Discovery Communications, Vulcan Productions is helping drive awareness and ignite change facing our planet today.

The film, set to air to 220 countries and territories around the world, aims to be a wake-up call to audiences that humanity is presiding over a mass extinction event and now is the time to begin to reverse it. By infiltrating notorious black markets, using never-before-seen images and exploring the scientific causes affecting changes to our environment, the eco-thriller aims to change the way we see the world and our role in it.

Psihoyos and his team of artists and activists don’t just use buttonhole and infrared cameras to highlight our destructive actions, they also use a high-tech toolbox to inspire viewers that the solutions that will spur change are in front of us.

That’s where Vulcan Productions has stepped in. Since the film made its theatrical debut earlier this year at the Sundance Festival, we have been using our resources and experience to magnify the stories and images from Racing Extinction.

We’ve been doing this in many different ways. Whether it’s highlighting the work of every day individuals like Joel Sartore or Shawn Heinrichs as part of our outreach campaign, creating educational materials for classrooms or projecting dramatic images on the façade of the Empire State Building, Vulcan Productions is building a community of advocates sparking change.
